The Ambassadors for the ERC is an initiative developed jointly by the European Research Council (ERC) and the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG), aiming to strengthen communication and engagement around frontier research supported by the European Research Council (ERC). In 2026, AERG is seeking applications from ERC grantees in selected countries to join the Ambassador network.

Purpose of the Role

ERC Ambassadors act as a point of contact between the ERC and the wider research community, policymakers, and the public. They contribute to raising awareness of the ERC’s mission and the value of curiosity-driven research in Europe.

Ambassadors will:

  • Represent the ERC at events, workshops, and public discussions.

  • Collaborate with National Contact Points and the AERG team on communication initiatives.

  • Provide input and guidance on outreach activities, ensuring alignment with ERC objectives.

The term of service is up to six years, with renewal options.

Eligibility

The call is open to ERC grantees based in:

  • Bulgaria

  • Estonia

  • Hungary

  • Latvia

  • Lithuania

  • Malta

  • Portugal

  • Netherlands

Candidates should be committed to promoting research and capable of engaging with diverse audiences.

Application Process

Applicants are asked to:

  1. Review the Ambassador Charter to understand the expectations of the role.

  2. Complete the application form by 4 February 2026.

Selection will consider disciplinary diversity, career stage, and geographic representation. Appointments will be announced in late February 2026, with the formal launch of the new cohort at an event in Brussels in April 2026.

The AERG Ambassador role provides an opportunity to contribute to the visibility and understanding of frontier research in Europe. It is suitable for ERC grantees interested in engagement and communication activities that support the ERC’s mission.
