The European Research Council (ERC) and the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG) have jointly launched an exciting new initiative: the "Ambassadors for the ERC" network. This collaborative effort aims to unite ERC grantees to advocate for fundamental research.
The "Ambassadors for the ERC" network will see ambassadors highlight the value of fundamental research and reinforce the ERC’s vision, particularly ahead of the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10).
The network will include grantees from across EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries, inviting them to participate in voluntary activities to:
§ Promote the importance of frontier research funding to policymakers, media, and local communities.
§ Share insights about ERC funding opportunities and champion the mission of the ERC.
§ Support ERC National Contact Points (NCPs) and AERG efforts through events, workshops, and outreach initiatives.
This initiative is intended to complement the work of ERC NCPs by adding a voice at the national level. Ambassadors will advocate for frontier research through talks, conferences, and media engagement, often in collaboration with NCPs and the AERG.
How to become an Ambassador for the ERC?
AERG invites ERC grantees to express their interest in becoming an Ambassador. The process is straightforward:
- Review the charter: This document outlines the responsibilities and expectations of the role.
- Submit an application: Complete the short application form by February 21.
In selecting ambassadors, diversity across disciplines, countries, and career stages will be prioritized. Criteria will include communication experience and availability to contribute actively. The selected ambassadors will be announced during the week of March 24.
Why Join?
Becoming an Ambassador for the ERC offers a unique opportunity to:
- Represent and promote the ERC’s mission
- Share your research with a broader audience
The selected ambassadors will be invited to join the launch event, which will take place in Brussels on April 28, during the ERC Scientific Council plenary meeting.
